The Craze Over Names
As I mentioned last week, there is a growing corporate interest in owning the right domain names as more marketing money moves online. I guess it’s the hitting mainstream media in typical hyped up fashion. (Witness this article on the fact that hell.com failed to sell for the hoped-for $1M bid on CNNMoney).
It is my fervent belief that even small companies should protect their brands (and extend their reach) by ensuring they buy domain names that could help them or hurt them, either way.
Not that anyone would really want to be master of the hell.com domain.
By all means, register it if it’s still available. But the domain name industry, which I have shamelessly been a part of, has made that pretty unlikely, at least in com, net or org. Soon we’ll all be in the situation of this company:
