Blown Away by a Video
I got a note from a friend on Facebook yesterday with a link to a video that he said ‘reminded him of me.’ I have been blown away having watched it… It’s called ‘Did You Know?’
For any of you who wonder how we’re to keep up, have a look at why we should:
With thanks to researchers Karl Fisch, Scott McLeod, and Jeff Bronman…
I was telling a friend this morning that I think it’s one of the best times to be alive on earth. Hope you’ll agree, especially once you see this.
I’ve seen this before, and the adage that there are “Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics” holds true.
Most of these stats lack context. For example, indicating Bermuda has the highest internet penetration isn’t really a fair comparison given its size and population demographics. Another example is India may have lots of high IQ kids, but little opportunity for them to utilize that IQ.
While somewhat thought provoking, ultimately the information in the video is incomplete.
I’m not sure how Bermuda having the highest per capita internet penetration is an unfair comparison?
Isn’t it what the stats says they’re measuring?
I know exactly what you mean by using statistics to prove pretty much any point of view, but in this case, I think the representation of the research has been intended to make people think. That’s it.
What I love about it is that you think it’s incomplete. Will that lead you to go out and ask the researchers to further describe their stats? Maybe, maybe not. But you’ve graced this audience with compelling content to extend the thoughts provoked.
Cheers, Craig. And I’ll ask again… when are you going to start blogging?? I wish you had a regular venue for your thoughts.
Incredible vid… Amazing how fast technology has progressed in such a short time
